Dear friends,
For some years in my collection I had this fossil specimen of Mangelia jerbaensis donated to me by C. Chirli. Unfortunately the sculpture is faint in the images but can be seen on magnification. What is your opinion?

Well Constantine, according to its original description Mangelia jerbaensis should lack a spiral sculpture, with the exception of few (2-3) spiral cords on the uppermost 2-3 whorls, which are most evident on the coloured spiral bands and which I suspect are due to a lower erosion of the shell coloured areas compared to the dolourless ones. So I wonder what is the spiral sculpture you quoted for your specimen. By the way I suspect tha jerbaensi may be the same as M. sandrii, provided the current interpretation of this last is the correct one. A good photo of a specimen of what I think is sandrii is found at Oliver Caro' site: its shape and protoconch are quite similar to your speciemn, even if the colour is not but your is a fossil one, so...

Well, I don't know what to say. As far as I know M. fieldeni should be quite different from M. jerbaensis. The specimens I have show only some cords in the first and second whorls, baut the body whorl is smooth, not covered by eqaully spsced cords as in M. fieldeni.
