Ciao a tutti,
I am going to introduce you a rare sea urchin from the Mediterranean Sea, this is Plagiobrissus costai (Gasco, 1876). It is a very unknown sea urchin because it is very scarce and it is not appear in all the Mediterranean, only in Capri Island, Ischia Island, Taranto, Stromboli Island, Taranto Gulf (Italy); South France; Balearic Islands (Spain) and Haifa (Israel). The description of the species is the following:

Ciao a tutti,
vi mostro un riccio Mediterraneo molto raro, Plagiobrissus costai. E' una specie poco conosciutà perchè molto rara e perdipiù a distribuzione localizzata, rinvenuto soltanto a Capri ed Ischia (NA), nel Golfo di Taranto, a Stromboli (Sicilia), nel sud della Francia, alle Isole Baleari (Spagna) ed a Haifa (Israele). La descrizione della specie è la seguente:
"Dimensioni fino a 10 cm, corpo ovale, piuttosto allungato. Aculei di due dimensioni. Colorazione bruna, rossatra o violacea. La fasciola che circonda i petali ha forma irregolare con numerosi angoli. Tipicamente fra i petali sono presenti svariati grossi tubercoli. Vive fra i 25 ed i 200m".

It is important not confuse this species with Brissus unicolor (Leske, 1778) because this is very similar.

E' molto importante non confondere questa specie con Brissus unicolor, che è molto simile.

I would like to clarify the photos:
The first image belongs to Plagiobrissus costai.
The second image is Brissus unicolor.
These seaurchins live buried in sandy bottoms, so it is difficult to observe them when they are alive. It is more frequent to find only the test wihout spines (dead specimens).

Il primo esemplare raffigurato è Plagiobrissus costai il secondo Brissus unicolor. Queste specie vivono infossate in fondali sabbiosi, quindi è difficile osservarli da vivi ed è molto più semplice trovare soltanto i loro scheletri (esemplari morti).

Dear Ivan, Plagiobrissus costai is more than a rare species  . But as you could simply imagine I have one specimen (only one!), dead taken at 20 m of depth in Capri Island (NA). I found it the same day I found the live giant Bursa scrobilator, it was a lucky day  . Now you know that you love sea urchins more than me, so I would present it to you, but I will never send it by mail, to you or to anyone. So, if you really need it, you're welcome in Naples .

Dear Fabio,
incredible photo from a incredible species. I love echinoderms, you know and this species have always captivated me. Here in Spain, this species lives only in Balearic Islands and in Italy lives in Capri Island and in a few more places, but as you told, this is more than a rare species.
Thank you for the present, so please, keep this wonderful specimens for me. As soon as possible (I need to save some money), I will travel to Naples to meet you.
You had a lucky day when you found the Bursa and the Plagiobrissus.
